Course Description:
Theatre 3233 is an upper level course in play
analysis. Guided by the two textbooks, this course will analyze 5-6 scripts that
are excellent representations of dramatic literature. We will approach this
analysis from a very theatrically practical and applicable standpoint. We will
move beyond the normal considerations of form, in analysis, regarding dramatic
literature.
Course Objectives:
To develop the basic skills of play analysis.
To develop an approach to uniform play analysis.
To develop a basic understanding of the approach to play analysis in regard to a
historical perspective of dramatic literature.
To begin to understand how play analysis is essential to play production.
To consider the application of play analysis with regard to each of the
collaborative theatre artists.
Important Note:
This class will be conducted like a seminar class which means the rate of
progress is primarily determined by the participants. It will not have a
structure you are accustomed to or familiar with. It will require that you be
very prepared each class period to discuss and present material as determined by
the previous class(es) and the instructor.
