Course Description: The purpose of this course is to increase the student's
critical and aesthetic sensitivity to the art of theater. The course approaches
the study of this art form from a survey standpoint through lecture, video and
live performance.
Course Objectives:
To increase the student's knowledge of the art of theater.
To develop the student's appreciation for the art of theater.
To increase the student's awareness of the occupational opportunities involved
in theater arts.
To increase the student's knowledge of play form and structure.
To increase the student's knowledge of the historical and philosophical
foundations that
influenced theater as an art form.
To increase the student's practical knowledge of theater as a collaborative
art form.
Important Notice:
It should be noted that students who elect to take this course may be
exposed to adult material through our class discussions and the viewing of
theatrical events. If you think you may find any of the material objectionable
you may wish to opt for the other Fine Arts courses on this campus.
Grading Procedure:
Exam 1 25%
Exam 2 25%
Exam 3 25%
Final 25% (excused if you have perfect attendance and A's on
first three exams)
Attendance:
Per the ASU policy, each student is allowed 4 absences from this class,
either excused or unexcused, an absence is an absence. Absence beyond the
allotted amount will result in the lowering of your final grade one full grade
for each additional absence.
Academic Misconduct:
The performance of and/or involvement in any acts of misconduct will be
addressed as per regulations set forth in the ASU Student Handbook 1999-00.
This includes, but is not limited to cheating, misrepresentation and plagiarism.
