Opportunities

Graduate Research
Opportunities are available in my laboratory for graduate students to pursue thesis research leading to the award of a Master of Science degree from Purdue University. The research projects will be in the areas of research outlined above. The Department of Biology awards Teaching Assistantships on a competitive basis to graduate students enrolled in the thesis option. If you are interested in graduate research opportunities in my laboratory, please contact me by email (danielj@pfw.edu). Applications for the biology graduate program should be submitted online from the Purdue University web site: www.gradschool.purdue.edu/admissions. Additional information about our program of graduate study, deadlines and application instructions is available from the Department of Biology web site: www.pfw.edu/biology.

Undergraduate Research
If you are an undergraduate student interested in research in my laboratory, contact me by email (danielj@pfw.edu) to learn about the opportunities. The research that you will do in my lab would be suitable for your Honors project and/ or BIOL 491 Senior Biology Seminar capstone course project. You will need to enroll in a research credit course (BIOL 595 or BIOL 295). A maximum of six research credits (General Electives) could be obtained by Biology majors over several semesters. These credits will appear on your transcripts and count towards your graduation. You would be eligible to apply for competitive undergraduate research scholarships awarded by PFW.

Graduate and undergraduate students in my laboratory will have opportunities to present their research results at local, regional and international scientific meetings. These include the PFW Research and Creative Endeavor Symposium, the Indiana Branch of the American Society for Microbiology and the American Society for Microbiology.
