for new graduate teaching assistants. Instructed new GTAs on successful teaching

handling of difficult classroom situations at the college level.

THE UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA: 1995-1998 - Graduate Teacher Courses
Taught:
Beginning Stage Directing
Introduce students to the fundamentals of stage directing. Through the study of directing theory and practical
application, assist students in the development of the skills necessary for basic stage
direction.
Advanced Stage Directing
Through the study of contemporary scripts and
contemporary directing theory students gain a further understanding of the art
of stage direction. Included in this course are considerations of Play Style. An
emphasis is put on practical application through scene work and a final public
one act play.
Play Analysis
Guided by the two textbooks, this course analyzes
5-6 scripts that are excellent representations of dramatic literature. We will
approach this analysis from a very theatrically practical and applicable
standpoint. We will move beyond the normal considerations of form, in analysis,
regarding dramatic literature.
Beginning Acting - Major
As the first course in an Acting Course Track, introduce theater major
students to the foundations of acting through the use of exercises, assignments, scene study, character analysis and comprehensive
method study utilizing a variety of methods. The emphasis on the
course is the discovery of the body as the acting tool.
Beginning Acting - Non Major
Introduce non-major students to the foundations of acting techniques
through the use of exercises, assignments, monologue and scene study, play attendance and written assignments.
Intermediate Acting
This course is a continuation of the study of acting at an intermediate
level. The students continue their investigation into the methods of creating
character, text analysis and performance techniques. This course also introduces the student to styles other than realism.
Voice and Diction
Instructor in beginning voice and diction course with sole responsibility
for one of six undergraduate sections. Responsible for all material including lectures on the voice and anatomy, vocal instruction and guidance, creating
and grading tests and five vocal performances.
Theatre Management
This course examines the business side of theatre through specific discussion
of theatre management techniques. It includes the study of arts administration, accounting practices, box office and front-of-house
procedures, marketing and publicity and personnel from both a commercial and non-profit point of view.
Introduction to Theatre
Instructor in survey course in theatre history and practicum with sole
responsibility for one of six sections. The third year responsibilities
included creating syllabus, scheduling guest speakers and supervising four other
instructors.
Fine Arts Theatre
This is an introductory course which aims to increase the student's
critical and aesthetic sensitivity to the art of theatre. This is a basic theatre appreciation course designed for students to fill a University
fine arts requirement.
Honors - Fine Arts Theatre
A more advanced introductory course which aims to
increase the student’s critical and aesthetic sensitivity to the art of
theatre. It is a basic theatre appreciation course designed for students to fill
a University fine arts requirement.
Seminar - Cultural Diversity in American Playwriting
A seminar course for advanced Theatre and English students designed to allow the
student to investigate how American cultural diversity is represented in
contemporary playwriting.
Stage Management
An introductory course in the craft of theatre stage management. This course
introduces the student to the procedures, responsibilities, rules and
professional opportunities in theatre stage management.
Acting Shakespeare
A thorough investigation of the acting techniques specific to performing
the works of Wm. Shakespeare through text, scene and monologue work. An emphasis
will be placed on practical application of text analysis work as it pertains to
