Viruses: Oncogenic/Viroid/Prion

• Oncogenic- cancer producing.
  • caused by “lysogenic” viruses
    • oncogenes
  • few human cancers caused by viruses (more animal)
• Viroids- usually associated with plant diseases.
  • ssRNA, circle, unprotected by capsid
• Prions- consist solely of protein??
  • no viral particles, no nucleic acid
  • Kuru, Creutzfeld-Jakob syndrome, slow viral diseases
