Peptidoglycan
composed of AA and sugars
- N-acetylglucosamine (NAG) and N-acetyl-muramic acid (NAM)
- attached to NAM are short side chains that are 4 or 5 AA’s long. AA’s are Alanine (1st, attached to NAM), Glutamic acid, Diaminopimelic acid (DAP) and Alanine.
- DAP (AA found only in eubacteria) of one tetrapeptide attached to 4th AA, alanine, on another tetrapeptide.
