                 What's the Difference?

Today's objectives:
 1. Relate the value of a slope to its steepness.
 2. Determine the slope of a line from a grid and find its equation.
 3. Explore the difference between two functions and make connections between their graphs.

Due: Wednesday, January 15
Read:
the Syllabus and Section 1.1 and 1.2
Do:
If necessary, purchase a TI-84 Plus CE or equivalent.
           Optional: Section 1.1-- 1-12, 15-20, 39-42, 45-48, 61 for practice as needed.
Review Practice Questions to Check Prerequisite Skills Needed for MA 22900 and these Worked out Solutions.

Wednesday, January 15 Break-Even Analysis (1.2)

Handouts: What's the Difference?
                 Revenue, Cost, Profit
                 Slopes and Linear Functions

Today's objectives:
 1. Perform a break-even analysis:
     a. Use the graph or formula of Revenue, Cost, or Profit to determine the break-even quantity (or quantities).
     b. Determine the amount of Revenue or Cost at a break-even quantity.
2. Use graphs to determine the production level when a company will maximize Revenue or maximize Profit.
3. Interpret the slope and y-intercept of a linear function if it represents Cost, Revenue, or Profit.

Due Friday, January 17
Do:
MML: What's the Difference? (Just for practice. No grade recorded)
          Optional: Section 1.2-- 11, 14, 15, 18-26, 33, 34 for practice as needed.
Complete the first question in the
Slopes and Linear Functions handout.

Friday, January 17 Supply and Demand (1.2)

Handouts:  Slopes and Linear Functions
                  Supply and Demand

Today's objectives:
1. Find and interpret the slope and axis intercepts of a linear demand function.
2. Find the formula of a cost function from a graph with a grid (without given the y-intercept).
3. Find marginal cost, marginal revenue, and marginal profit from a formula or graph.
4. Determine the equilibrium quantity if given the formulas or graphs of the supply and demand.
