MA 261 – Multivariate Calculus

Book: James Steward – Essential Calculus: Early Transcendentals 2^nd Ed.

Course Description: I shall cover chapters 10-13. The main content of the course is devoted to analytic geometry in space, vectors and vector functions, functions of several variables and partial derivatives, multiple integration, and vector calculus. The objective of the course is to master these topics and concepts, as well as improve problem solving skills and critical thinking.

Grading: There will be four tests (100 pts each), ten quizzes, and a comprehensive final. Weekly homework will be collected. The semester grade will be formed from quizzes - 15%, homework - 10%, three best tests - 25% each. The grade for the course is based on 75% of the semester grade and 25% of the Final exam according to the scale:

A 90 -100; B 80-89; C 70-79; D 60-69; F below 59.

No make up tests or quizzes will be given (unless proper excuse is provided).

Homework: Homework will be collected and graded weakly. It is the instructor's experience that keeping up with the homework is an essential part of the preparation for the course. The problems on the tests and the quizzes will be similar to the homework.
