A.  The most effective aspects of this course were:

SI’s are very helpful, plus you get credit. 1

Dr. D - she’s very helpful, clear, and makes things fun and interesting. 2

The study guides that were posted on Doc’s web page. 3

The study guides & study questions. The instructor explained everything in a good detailed way. She used many examples which helped me on the tests. 5

The oppertunities (sic) the students have for studying and learning more overall throughout the course. 6

         The lectures 7

Going to the SI classes. 8

         Lectures & explainations (sic) 9

Prof. willingness to explain as many times as necessary until the concept is understood. 10

The study guides that were given before test’s because they help focus our attention on the most important material. 11

It is knowledgeable to critical thinking. 13

Brain anatomy & function, also conditioners 14

Physiology aspects and what makes the body function & why 15

         Lectures 16

Everything in this course relates to everything people do almost everyday. If I applied myself better, I would think of the relations better - but most effective were the lives that are in relation. 17

The information that is received through the course from the lectures. Given good examples to help understand. 18

Helps to learn about way think (sic). I believe that the course is taught very well and very informational (sic). 19

Thoroughly explaining terms, etc. Giving examples. 20

The examples given to more clearly define a concept. The study guides are very helpful. 21

Learning about memory and functions. 22

The way the material was presented. 23

         SI; lecture 24

         The SI things. 28

The most effective aspects were that when we didn’t understand things as a class she tried to give a real life situation or analogy. 30

The note taking in class. 31

She deals with things that is in the real world. Deals with peoples brain’s and their intelligence and much more. She gives study guides. 32

All aspects of this course are relevant. 33

I thought to be the memory & the chapters on the mind and senses. As well as the drug lecture with the way we associate them. 34

         OK 35

The professor’s lectures really put things into terms we could understand which helped immensely. Although it is a little hard to kep up w/ notes. The SI sessions are both helpful and a wonderful way to gain a little extra credit. The SI instructors are very good about going over anything w/ you & makign sure you understand it. 36

The SI sessions and the explanation of terms. 37

The diagrams and examples placed on the board. The examples of experiences instructor has encountered. 38

Dr. D made the study guide clear and effect to study for tests. Also, her website was very easy to access info that I needed. 39

The study guides were very helpful we knew exactly what to study & it cleared some things up. 40

Study guide; going to SI; writting (sic) paper 41

The lectures, gives you the opportunity to ask questions to the prof not another student or someone from SI 42

Supplemtnal Instruction (helps get us studied for tests), teacher’s experience, examples we can relate to. 43

         Study guides 45

I liked the idea of the research participation. Psy is all about research. And the study guides. 46

Real-life examples of theories in action from instructor’s background. 47

The lectures, they were clear, informative, and fun. 48

Given practice test; explanation clearly of in detail; films ??? experience. 49

I have learned many new things through this course about how the brain works and how people function in general. She presented the material in a way that I was able to understand.50

Just how all the material was presented. 51

Dr. DiClementi’s attitude and enthusiasm about the field of psych - research participation gave a greater understanding of sci. method & how research is conducted. SI really helped me to grasp what I didn’t get from my notes or just reading the text. 52

The instructor ability to teach the course effectively and give feedback and going to SI group.53

How the brain transmitts (sic); memory; “conditioning” 54

Learning about how things in your body works (sic) 55

The SI classes that were mandatory. I feel they were a big help to my grade and ways to help me remember the material. 56

         The SI classes 58

SI classes have helped me a whole bunch. Study guides have helped too. 59

The lectures and the real life examples to further explain a topic. 60

Very interesting, feel I’m learning. Also learning how to study. 61

SI sessions are a good way to help you to prepare for tests. I think your humor makes class more interesting and easier to come to class. 63

Great study guides, very helpful. Good lecture material, presented in interesting manner. Glad the class wasn’t based solely on reading material. 64

The details in the lecture & the worksheets given to help with the lectures. 65

B.  The least effective aspects of this course were:

         None, thus far. 2

Not having a class review the day prior to an exam. This way things would be clear and scores most likely would improve. 3

Some of the questions on the test were too life like. They were all real situations & not just strict definitions. These were kind of hard, because I study definitions & most of the questions weren’t. They were real live situations. 5

The follow up on student productivity, but I guess this is the follow up! 6

         The experiments. 7

         Going to the experiments. 8

Possibly to (sic) much info on some tests; SI 9

So far things we have done in class seem to all have a purpose. 11

A bit difficult for me. 13

         Papers 16

Not an entrily (sic) interesting subject - but oh well. 17

Everything seems to be very effective nothing do I feel is uneffective or at least (sic). 19

The papers do not seem to help w/ the overall understanding of the material. 21

Nothing, I like it all. 22

         Writing the 4 papers 23

         Research projects; research papers. 24

I felt the reaction papers didn’t really help me much with learning anything about the course. 25

The professor needs to stay away from lecture examples that relate to sex and drinking. 26

The lectures. I felt that this professor rambles way too much, leaving you feeling like you don’t know what is going on. She tries to use drinking, sex, or alcohol as ways to get the students to pay attention. Thats (sic) not all thats (sic) on our mind. She doesn’t repeat herself and she goes very fast over key issues. 27

         Research 28

         If I missed a day I couldn’t make the notes up. 30

         Reading the book. 31

That all SI are required to attend also that we don’t have any homework that cause the tests to be harder because there is no inbetween work to do (sic). 32

The topic of the brain and how they work or are effected by damage. 34

         OK 35

Some of the research experiments were not quite as effective as others. 36

Everything has been pretty effective. 37

The bland chapters or to say the dull non excitable chapters. 38

The reaction papers had little to do with what we were studying. 39

I do not think the 20 SI points should be mandatory. If I’m not @ work I have school & vice versa & it is very hard for me to go to them no matter what I do. So I am losing points. 40

Everything that we do in this class is effective. 41

The reaction papers, while they got us thinking about psychology, it was just that thinking, we never learned from them. 42

         Reaction papers. 43

I didn’t like the fact that we had to go to SI. SI is a good thing but I think it should be more for extra credit instead of actual points. I go to school 6 days a week and work 4. It was hard to fit in SI. 46

All the SI sessions we are required to attend. 47

The papers, we wrote on what we thought. This gives you a clue to what we were thinking, but didn’t really make us learn anything. 48

         I can’t think of any. 50

         There weren’t n/e (sic) 51

Was on my own reading sometimes I didn’t understand certain things in the chapter. 53

Having 3 to 4 chapters to test over at one time. 56

         The research groups. 58

All aspects of this course seem to be productive, I don’t feel like I’m wasting my time when I am in class 60

I don’t really think there is a least effective aspect to this class. 61

Forcing SI sessions on us. I just don’t have time to add them to my schedule. 62

C.  The best ways to improve this course would be to:

Continue to make available the study guides, plus use one class to review the day prior to exam. 3

Fix the above answers (From above: Some of the questions on the test were too life like. They were all real situations & not just strict definitions. These were kind of hard, because I study definitions & most of the questions weren’t. They were real live situations.) 5

Make outside of class work more understandable. 6

Not make SI mandatory. There’s people that have kids and 1½ hour drives. The SI schedule just doesn’t fit into mine. 7

         Make it more interesting. 8

         Not require SI 9

         No SI sessions mandatory 10

Give us a couple days each semester off from class. 11

         Show more movies. 13

Have less emphasis on doing research participation. 16

The instructor could use a powerpoint and more visual assistance on the chalk board. It would help clarify the points that she does make. 17

Try and help us understand more. 18

I believe that this course is very well done and does not need much improvement. 19

         Leave it the same. 22

Have SI sessions for each teacher or teachers that are on the same chapters. 24

Give more comments on the Reflective Paper so that we know if we are on the right track or not. 26

Better explanantions in lectures. Give more comments on our reflective papers. I’d like to know that she read it, not just gave credit for it. 27

         Not have research 28

Go over book in class. 31

Give some more assignments so the test wouldn’t be so difficult. 32

Decrease number of SI sessions required towards grade - with those of us who are full time students/employees it is very hard to attend all of those. Also, sometimes there are questions on the test that were not on study sheet and possibly not covered in class. 33

Do some more class participation in the class, not just SI or labs outside the room. 34

         OK 35

I can’t think of a way to improve the course. 37

         Course needs no improvement. 38

Improve in your lecture organization with power point. 39

Maybe put notes on the internet incase (sic) we did get everything or didn’t understand lecture & need reasuring (sic). 40

If students are not done with test I wish they could have more time. 41

         Modify reaction papers. 42

Spread the chapter tests, have tests over 1 chapter at a time...2 at the most. It’s hard to remember (& keep in memory) all the info from 3 chapters. SI sessions should be of our own free-will rather than required (or cut down somewhat the # of times we need to attend). Post grades on internet w/ a password for each student. 43

         Deeper study guides 45

I think Dr. DiClementi did a great job in teaching us the basics of psy. 46

Require half as many mandatory SI sessions. 47

Have ungraded quizes (sic) (in class) to areas we have covered. To make sure most of everyone is getting things right. 48

Speak slowly when given definition (sic). 49

Go over what’s going to be on the testa little more. And to not cover as many chapters at one time. 50

Don’t cover so many chapters on each test. 51

Have to take it twice. 52

Maybe to break the chapter test up in to maybe two chapters per test its easier to hold the info because some chapters are longer & difficult than others. 53

Watch more videos show pictures of different things. 55

Test less chapters at a time. 3 to 4 chapters at a time is way too much in psy because it’s so much to learn and understand. 56

Use powerpoint slides to teach 57

When taking notes, slow down a little, & make sure we’ll get everything in our notes that will not be in the book. 58

I enjoy the structure of the class now. No improvements come to mind at this point. 60

More practice questions related to test. 61

Use a more interesting book. 62

Get rid of the ear & eye section 63

D.  Further comments:

2nd test was long questions not enough time. 1

Professor was interesting for the most part and had a good way of explaining complicated topics. 3

Good class learn a lot of things on the human response and actions. 9

         Good prof. 10

         Good job so far. 11

I feel that I could’ve done a lot better had I did (sic) most of the reading. Everything seems pretty comprehensive but some material was harder than others. 13

I feel that I am learning a lot in this course and it is all being very clearly taught. 19

Since I am in High School I think this class is way better than my other classes. I seem to learn a lot without all the busywork and sitting in class for nothing. 22

SI is a good thing to make students go to. 23

         Nope. 28

         Very good presenter. 31

Study guides are very helpful. 32

I have learned a lot about the way I do things by relating them to the field of Psychology. 34

         OK 35

Really enjoy the course, professor, subject matter, etc. - so interesting because it all relates to us! 36

I really enjoy this class. I’m learning a lot and it is one of my favorites. 37

Overall this course is really enjoyable. We are able to learn the material while having fun. 42

Overall, the class is taught very well by the instructor (very nice & personable). 43

         Good class. 45

I would really like to take another course taught by DiClementi. 46

An overall good class, very interesting instructor, but I am against requiring SI sessions. 47

Overall, I enjoy this course, and I’m having fun. When I enjoy a class I usually do better, because I look forward to it. 48

         None. 50

         None. 51

I look forward to possibly taking more classes w/ Dr. DiClementi - very effective and entertaining...knowledgeable. 52

Over all the instructor is very good the course was exciting and I learned how many things worked that I thought I knew but really didn’t. 53

The course is overall very good. The instructor is very helpful. The study guides are very helpful & to the point. What she wanted us to know for the test was on the study guide. 54

Dr. D is an excellent instructor, would hope to be in more of her psy classes. 56

Dr. DiClementi is a very good professor. Brings the info to a level anyone can understand. Shows a lot of real life experiences that makes it easier for me to remember and to get interested in topics we have studied. 59

Dr. DiClementi introduces and explains information in a clear and interesting manner. It is hard to find a professor like her! 60

We need to learn how to apply knowledge with practice questions. 61

I thought this was one of the best classes I’ve ever taken. The material was presented in such a way that it was enjoyable learning. Dr. DiClementi very funny (sic) and obviously knowledgeable in her field. 64
